Stratigraphy
Formation:Castilletes Member:middle Castilletes
Regional section:Cocinetas Regional bed:168 m
Regional order:bottom to top
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Castilletes Formation, which conformably overlies the Jimol Formation (early Miocene) and is unconformably overlain by the Ware Formation. AGE: Langhian, on the basis of macrofaunal composition; direct age established by extrapolation of Sr-isotope dating by enterer. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Probably from middle member of Castilletes Fm; immediately underlying Ware Fm; from an estimated 168 m above Jimol/Castilletes contact.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: unlithified siltstone
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Unconsolidated silty matrix. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified, as determined in the field and based on museum-reposited specimens.
Environment:lagoonal
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Very shallow marine, probably slightly reduced salinity.
