Regional section:Cocinetas Regional bed:28 m
Regional order:bottom to top
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Castilletes Formation, which conformably overlies the Jimol Formation (early Miocene) and is unconformably overlain by the Ware Formation. This area and nearby collections have been previously mapped as Castilletes Formaton (late Pliocene-early Pleistocene). AGE: Burdigalian, on the basis of macrofaunal composition; direct age established by extrapolation of Sr-isotope dating by enterer. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Probably from lower Castilletes Formation, in lower (Patajau - informal) member; from 28 m above the Jimol/Castilletes contact.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:shelly/skeletal,gray lithified siltstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Unconsolidated, shelly, silty matrix. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified, as determined in the field and based on museum-reposited specimens.
Environment:lagoonal
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Shallow marine (0-15 m), siliciclastic, probably normal salinity.
