Time
Period:Cretaceous Epoch:Early/Lower Cretaceous
Key time interval:Barremian - Aptian
Age range of interval:129.40000 - 113.00000 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Formation:Ilek
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Age of Ilek Formation is poorly constrained but is currently believed to be Barremian-Aptian (see Averianov et al. 2018). The fossiliferous layer at Shestakovo 1 locality was dated to Aptian (Bugadeva et al. 2017). The overlying Kiya Formation has been assigned Albian age based on plant remains (Golovneva and Shchepetov 2010).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:"cross stratification",green,yellow sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: yellowish-green assorted sands with an admixture of pebble and gravel, confined mainly to the bottom of cross-bedded layers and lenses. Pebbles and gravel are presented by pellets (up to 0.1 m) of thick clays, silts, and carbonate nodules. Vertebrate fossils (scales, bone fragments, and teeth) are confined mainly to the gravel lenses at the bottom of the visible part of the section. These sediments represented a relatively high energy condition, but the preservation of the fossils, although fragmentary, indicates that they were not reworked.
Environment:fluvial indet.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
