Stratigraphy
Formation: | Sajovolgyi
Stratigraphic resolution: | bed
Stratigraphy comments: The succession which includes the two fossiliferous beds belongs to the Sajóvölgyi Formation. It rests upon Badenian Leitha Limestone and is overlain by Pleistocene talus sediments. Its age is determined as Upper Badenian (Neogene land mammal zones MN 6 to MN 7-8) based on gastropod and mammal biostratigraphy. The greenish clay bed (Mátraszőlős 1/zöld réteg, M1/z) is the lower of the two fossiliferous beds. |

Collection methods and comments
Collection methods: | sieve,field collection
Minimum sieve size: | 0.600
Rock censused: | 600 kg | ||
Reason for describing collection: | taxonomic analysis
Collectors: | Jánosz Hír et al. | Collection dates: | 1998 |
Collection method comments: The site was discovered in spring 1998 and was excavated in summer of the same year. The excavation was conducted by the Municipal Museum of Pásztó and the entire material should be reposited there (at least the holotype of Gyraulus matraensis is).
Taxonomic list comments:The birds and rodents are dealt with in the reference without any statement from which of the two horizons the material comes. Hence, all birds and rodents are not listed here but among the material collected from the ochre mud layer (PBDB coll. no. 167497). |
