Stratigraphy
Formation:Sajovolgyi
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: The succession which includes the fossiliferous bed belongs to the Sajóvölgyi Formation. It rests upon Badenian Leitha Limestone and is overlain by Pleistocene talus sediments. Its age is determined as Upper Badenian (Neogene land mammal zones MN 6 to MN 7-8) based on gastropod and mammal biostratigraphy.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: not reported
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: Fossils collected in the course of the 1997 test excavation are listed only by Vencel in his herpetological chapter. It is not clear where and in which stratigraphic level this excavation exactly took place. Also, it is not clear from which rocks the fossils come. In the introductory chapter of the paper there is mention of 700 kg of lignite clay that was unsuccessfully censused in 1997. It well may be, that the amphibians and reptiles listed by Vencel come from the same rocks.
