Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Chilcatay Formation, latest Oligocene to early Miocene (Dunbar et al. 1990; DeVries 1998, 2001). Although the precise locality of the holotype is unknown, the referred specimen MUSM 1401 originates from within the Chilcatay Formation, several meters under the Chilcatay Formation - Pisco Formation disconformity, at Ullujaya, a few kilometers north to the type locality. Based on a published section a short distance from Ullujaya, the Chilcatay Formation layers of this locality (which preserves the fossilized remains of other marine vertebrates including mysticetes, kentriodontids, the squalodelphinids Huaridelphis raimondii Lambert, Bianucci & Urbina, 2014 and Notocetus vanbenedeni Moreno, 1892, and a stem physeteroid) are tentatively dated to the early Miocene (Alván De la Cruz 2008; Lambert et al. 2014; Bianucci et al. 2015).
