Stratigraphy
Stratigraphic resolution: | bed
Stratigraphy comments: According to Marcinowski and Walaszczyk (1985), the ammonite assemblage from this level is composed of numerous lower Cenomanian taxa plus those characteristic of the middle Cenomanian Acanthoceras rhotomagense Zone (with mixed elements of both the Turrilites costatus and T. acutus subzones). Foraminiferal assemblages include the planktonic Rotalipora cushmani, which is a middle to early late Cenomanian form and is compatible with the ammonite-based dating of this unit (Walaszczyk 1987). Given the age-range of the associated ammonites, which are preserved as mineralised moulds, the studied nautilid material is best considered as early to/or middle Cenomanian in age. |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | burrows,hardground,glauconitic,phosphatic lithified marl |
Lithology description: Restricted to the glauconitic marls infilling large burrows and cavities in the underlying lower Cenomanian limestone. Both burrow infillings and intervening hummocks of the lower Cenomanian limestone are truncated by a complex nodular hardground with strong phosphate and glauconite impregnation.
Environment: | marine indet. |
