Stratigraphy comments: The author indicates that the samples were taken from the top of the "formation" Cerbatana, which is immediately followed by the San Nicolas clay.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: lithified conglomerate
Lithology description: Fossil wood was discovered on a level of stratified gravel that passes to sandstone at the top. They are immediately followed by a deposit of richly fossiliferous clays (San Nicola clay). This level, like all the "Formation" Cerbatana, has a marked torrential character. In fact, according to Weilman (1970), sediments come from the erosion of the Central Cordillera and were infiltrated east and southeast by currents (Fig. 82). (p. 401 - Les bois fossiles ont été découverts dans un niveau de graviers à des grés dans la partie superiéure. Ils sont immédiatement suivis par un dépot d'argiles (San Nicolas clay) richment fossilifères. Ce niveau, comme l'ensemble de la "Formation" Cerbatana, a un caractère torrentiel marquè. En effet, d'après Wellman (1970), les sèdiments proviendraient de l'erosion de la Cordillère centrale et auraient été entraîné vers l'est et le sud-est par des courants (Fig. 82)).
