Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | sandstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: "Facies Ittiri-B is approximately 2.5 meters of well-sorted, calcareous, fine sandstone with very abundant fossil remains represented by the irregular echinoids Clypeaster, Schizaster, and Conolampas, as well as pectinids and reworked barnacles (Fig. 5A–D). The sediment is intensely bioturbated by cylindrical burrows up to 1 cm in diameter that can extend more than 20 cm vertically. When overlain by Facies Ittiri-C, contact is gradual." When underlain by Facies Ittiri-A, contact is sharp. | |
Environment: | transition zone/lower shoreface |
Geology comments: "moderate- to low-energy sublittoral environment" |
