Stratigraphy
Stratigraphy comments: Cennen Formation through Tilestones Formation
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: argillaceous siltstone
Secondary lithology:micaceous sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: "The community is present in a range of lithofacies from muddy siltstones (Lower Roman Camp Formation) to find micaceous sandstones in the Long Quarry Member of the Tilestones Formation; it is also present in the mixed lithofacies of the Cennen Formation."
Environment:marine indet.
Geology comments: "BA 2-3...The range of deposits is comparable with that in prograding delta systems, in which muddy siltstone represents prodelta and mixed lithofacies (sst, siltst, mudst, and local congl) and micaceous sst represent delta front. Areal restriction of community may reflect freshwater influence, an effect not experienced elsewhere in Wales and Welsh Borderland."
