Stratigraphy
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Unnamed formation. "Tentative age of early late Lochkovian (conodont fauna 3)..."
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:gray argillaceous,silty lime mudstone
Secondary lithology:gray argillaceous,silty wackestone
Lithology description: Section as a whole: "Thin-bedded, silty, argillceous lime-mudstone containing argillaceous seams..." This unit: "LIme mudstone-wackestone: thin bedded, undulatory and lenticular in places; med. dk. grey; fetid, slightly silty, green-grey argillaceous sseams; well indurated; rare crinoids, solitary horn corals, brachiopods, also common to abundant fish at upper levels"
Environment:open shallow subtidal Tectonic setting:passive margin
Geology comments: Deposits in this region are of two general kinds: shallow-water stable carbonate platform (generally in the NW part of Arctic Archipelago) and deeper basinal facies (generally to the SE). This collection is in the former. Smith's Ancillotoechia-Cyrtina Community, which he places in the third of six zones from nearshore to offshore, subtidal, below wave base. "...normal shallow-marine subtidal...quieter water than the G-A-S Community...large numbers of fossil fish in same beds as trilobites, brachiopods, and other normal marine fauna..."
