Secondary lithology:black "shale"
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: "...shallow water, light colored carbonates, of which section 3 is a tongue, grade rapidly westward into deep water dark shales and limestones. Shelly faunas are present in the limestones, and graptolites are found in the platy, black shales. Both limestones and shales are highly organic, thus accounting for the black color of the limestones. The dark limestone bands are relatively thin (3-5 m thick) while the shales range from 2 to 20 m in thickness. In addition the relative proportions of shale and carbonates change rapidly westward..."
Environment:basinal (carbonate) Tectonic setting:passive margin
Geology comments: Interpretation is of a trough surrounded by shallow carbonate platforms. Sections 1,2,4, and 5 are essentially from the former environment and section 3 from the latter.

Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection excludes:some macrofossils
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
Collection method comments: Abundances are given (table 1). See PBDB collections 24931, 24932, and 24933 for Lower Lochkovian, Upper Lochkovian, and Pragian lists, taken from Lenz (1999, PBDB ref. 6991), but evidently extracted from this monograph. Systematic treatment is spread over two monographs (PBDB refs. 7341 and 7342), but entire lists are given in this part (ref. 7341).
Taxonomic list comments:Author includes brachiopods and some biostratigraphically useful fossils. Also present in the sections are Pelecypoda, Gastropoda, Bryozoa, Rugosa, Tabulata, Ostracoda, Trilobita, Porifera, Echinodermata, Conodonta, and Graptolithina, but information is not generally given as to occurrence of these additional elements in particular collections.
