Secondary lithology: | shelly/skeletal,gray,red or brown grainstone
Includes fossils? | Y | ||
Includes fossils? | Y | ||
Lithology description: "Varies from moderately to abundantly fossiliferous. There are two common lithologies: earthy red calcilutites with scattered fossil debris seldom exceeding 20% (wackestone) and very fossiliferous, echinoderm-rich red or gray calcilutites to calcarenites with from 50% to as much as 70% skeletal debris (wackestone-packstone textures)."
Environment: | deep subtidal ramp | Tectonic setting: | cratonic basin |
Geology comments: "The brachiopod fauna is very diverse and shows affinities both with that of the Henryhous Formation, Oklahoma and the Brownsport Formation, Tennessee...[Few complete crowns]...root systems can be very common in some horizons...little indication of wave disturbance, and some dissociated echinoderm specimens have isolated plates in near proximity, suggesting that variations in clastic input, rather than winnowing, are responsible for the noted differences in skeletal grain percentages. Individual grains slightly to moderately abraded, microborins common. Brachiopos often articulated, but are also major debris contributors. Overall best interpreted as outer BA4 to inner BA 5, somewhat landward of the upper Bainbridge Pisocrinus Association [PBDB coll. 26821] and graptolite-bearing units."
