Stratigraphy
Formation:Xiajiaqiao
Stratigraphic resolution:formation
Stratigraphy comments: Except where otherwise stated, ref. 7624 uses Lower Silurian as equivalent to Llandovery, Middle Silurian as equivalent to Wenlock, and Upper Silurian as equivalent to Ludlow plus Pridoli. "This formation is correlated with the Xiushan Formation of SW China, and the Fentou Formation of Jiangsu and Anhui Provinces. The age, therefore, is in the Upper Llandovery-Early Wenlock range."
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:green,yellow siltstone
Secondary lithology: sandy "shale"
Lithology description: "In the Lixi section the formation is 681 m thick, and consists of yellowish-green siltstone and shandy shale rich in fossils--particularly shelly fossils..."
Environment:marine indet.
Geology comments: Correlation chart indicates BA3 based on shelly fauna.
