Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:gray silty slate
Secondary lithology:gray sandstone
Lithology description: "The Lynton Slates comprise grey and dark grey silty slates with mudstones, siltstones and grey sandstones, usually fine to medium grained...In general the lower part...is sandy or silty, but with significant argilllites, and the upper part is predominantly argillaceous except at the top, where sandstones, possibly beach deposits, herald the transition into the overlying Hangman Grits..."
Environment:marine indet.
Geology comments: interpreted as shallow-marine sediments, representing alternating periods of quieter water and more active deposition
