Age range of interval:11.63000 - 5.33300 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Formation:Angostura
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: The Angostura Formation is Late Miocene age (planktic foraminiferal zone N. 16). It is apparently the Ecuadorian equivalent of the Gatun Formation of Panama. The formation is largely barren, but in a few places there are lenses or interbeds filled with finely preserved fossils. Overlies the Viche Formation, and is overlain by the lower Onzole Formation.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: "siliciclastic"
Lithology description: Unknown, presumably siliciclastic lithology.
Environment:coastal indet.
Geology comments: Shallow water
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:selective quarrying,field collection,survey of museum collection
Reason for describing collection:taxonomic analysis
Museum repositories:CAS,LACM,PRI,USNM
Collection method comments: Collections reposited in the CAS, Los Angelese County Museum, PRI, USNM, and Tulane University
Taxonomic list comments:Taxonomic list only contains species taxonomically described in reference.
