Stratigraphy comments: The Angostura Formation is Late Miocene age (planktic foraminiferal zone N. 16). It is apparently the Ecuadorian equivalent of the Gatun Formation of Panama. The formation is largely barren, but in a few places there are lenses or interbeds filled with finely preserved fossils. Overlies the Viche Formation, and is overlain by the lower Onzole Formation. |
