Stratigraphy
Geological group:Kakegawa Formation:Hijikata
Stratigraphic resolution:formation
Stratigraphy comments: Overlies the Horinouchi Formation, interbedded with the T-3 tuff layer
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:coarse lithified silty mudstone
Secondary lithology: tuff
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: thick bedded mudstone interbedded with T-3 tuff. Figure 1 of paper illustrates this formation as coarse-grained siltstone grading to the southeast into a fine-grained siltstone. This formation grades to the northwest into the fine grained sandstone of the Ukari fm.
Environment:coastal indet.
Geology comments: This formation was said to be deposited on a slope and in a geosynclinal trough in front of the shelf.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body,original aragonite,original calcite
Size of fossils:macrofossils,mesofossils,microfossils
Articulated whole bodies:some
Disassociated major elements:some
Collection methods and comments
Collection excludes:some microfossils
Collection methods:bulk,field collection
Reason for describing collection:general faunal/floral analysis
Collection method comments: There were 200-1500 individual forams present in each sample. The number of mollusc individuals per sample is not reported. Forams were extracted from blocks of sediment weighing 1-2kg each.
Taxonomic list comments: Molluscs reported are all observed taxa in the given area. Forams in list are only those that were analyzed for oxygen isotope ratios and include only the most common foram species.
