Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | gray,green,red sandstone |
Secondary lithology: | gray siltstone |
Lithology description: ...layers of fine-grained sandstone alternating with siltstones, mudstones and shales. The fine-greained sandstone bands are generally not more than a few inches thick, and are often seen to wedge out laterally. The sandstones are hard and in places micaceous, and they break into flaggy, blocky and irregluar pieces. The siltstones, mudstones and shales are soft and weather easily. Calcareous bands, a few inches thick, are common in the sandstones, and are usually crowded with fossils. The sandstones are generally grey, greenish-grey, red or purple, and the shales are mostly grey or purplish-grey. | |
Environment: | shoreface |
