Stratigraphy
Formation: | Verdun | Member: | Lagunitas Sandstone
Stratigraphic resolution: | formation
Stratigraphy comments: Regarded as lower Upper Eocene on the basis of faunal similarity. Foraminifera suggest an upper Eocene age. Olsson states that the Talara and Saman rocks can be referred to the Upper Eocene and in terms of the European section, to the Bartonian and Ludian.....respectively? The Verdun Formation is presumably (by Olsson) correlated to the Saman Formation, although this has been complicated by a lack of exposures in the intermediate area. The Lagunitas Sandstone belongs to the upper part of the Verdun Formation. They are directly overlain by the Chira Shales and achieve a thickness of about 600 ft in thickness. |
