Stratigraphy
Local bed:23 m
Regional section:Volga River
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: No lithostratigraphic data reported. Collection from 22-24 m thick claystone, between 18 and 28 m above the base of the composite collection. This unit occupies the lower part of the Early Barremian succession. The top of the unit in well defined in all sections and represented by a SG. The SG is a distinctive half-meter glauconite layer, which was considered to represent the Hauterivian-Barremian boundary (Baraboshkin et al., 2001).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:concretionary,pyritic,black lithified silty claystone
Secondary lithology:green lithified siltstone
Includes fossils?Y
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: Rhythmic alteration of black silty claystones and light grey and greenish siltstones or fine sandstones. The claystone contains weathered pyrite and rare horizons of carbonate concretions. The beds are intensively bioturbated and occasionally contain thin layers of sandy tempestites.
Environment:marine indet.
Geology comments: No paleoenvironmental data reported.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body,recrystallized,replaced with silica
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Preservation of anatomical detail:poor
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:selective quarrying,surface (float),surface (in situ),field collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Collection method comments: Figured material is deposited in the Museum of the Earth of the Moscow State University, Russia (MSU); some material is also reposited in the Dept of Geology and Paleontology at the University of Hannover, Germany (SGPI).
Taxonomic list comments:Modern nomenclatural usage. Includes all faunal group.
