Stratigraphy
Formation: | Waccamaw | ||||
Stratigraphic resolution: | member | ||||
Stratigraphy comments: Local section name: Berkeley 45 drill hole. Basinal/regional section name: Summerville Barrier.
From the lower member of the Waccamaw Formation. Stratigraphically the Waccamaw Fm lies between the Bear Bluff Fm (Pliocene) below and the Canepatch (Pleistocene) above, and is seperated from these formations by distinct unconformities. Various portions of the Waccamaw Fm have been included in the Wicomico, Peholoway, Chown, and Talbot Formations. Most erarly workers considered the Waccamaw Fm to be Pliocene in age (Clark et al 1912, Cole 1931, Cooke 1936, Cooke et al. 1943, Gardner 1915, 1943, 1948, Mansfield and MacNeil 1937, Olsson and Petit 1964, Richards 1943, 1950, 1969. DuBar (1958, 1971) and more recent workers suggest that the Waccamaw Fm might be Pleistocene in age. Waccamaw Fm has close similarity to the Caloosahatchee Fm. |
