Stratigraphy
Formation:Tamala Limestone Member:Peppermint Grove Limestone
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY: Peppermint Grove Limestone is relegated to member status following Kendrick et al. 1991. STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: Unknown relationships to other bounding units, as not mentioned in text. THICKNESS: Shell bed about two feet in thickness. AGE: Late Pleistocene.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:coarse,pebbly,shelly/skeletal,brown unlithified sandy "mixed carbonate-siliciclastic"
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Rounded travertine pebbles and occasional rolled corals in a corase brown shell sand. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified, assumed to be unlithified give age and as text states sediment to be soft.
Environment:shoreface
Glacial or sequence phase:transgressive
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Mixed assemblage of taxa from ipen rocky shore or reef flat, sandy beach with moderate exposure, and sheltered shallow marine gulf habitats. Here, assigned to a siliciclastic "shoreface" environment. SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY: Accumulated during Late Pleistocene sea-level rise.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body,original aragonite,original calcite
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Abundance in sediment:abundant
Temporal resolution:time-averaged
Spatial resolution:allochthonous
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:selective quarrying,field collection
Reason for describing collection:paleoecologic analysis
Collection method comments: COLLECTORS: Collected by members of the Western Australia Naturalist's Club. REPOSITORY: Western Australian Museum, Perth.
Taxonomic list comments:COMPLETENESS: Exhaustive for mollusca. No other groups mentioned in text. NOMENCLATURE: Not an authoritative publication, but all identifications are made to species level, and nomenclature is fairly modern.
