Stratigraphy
Geological group: | Tokarahi | Formation: | Tapui Glauconitic Sandstone | Member: | Livingstone Sand |
Stratigraphic resolution: | bed
Stratigraphy comments: STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Livingstone Sand Mbr (tongue) of the Tapui Glauconitic Sand Fm, immediately overlying the Kauru Fm (Teurian), and overlain locally by Raki Siltstone (Kaiatan). AGE: Bortonian of Gage (1957) = late Lutetian-Bartonian, here assigned to the Bartonian. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: A tongue within the formation. It is uncertain whether the member underlies or grades laterally into the Incholme Glacuonitic Sand. |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | fine,pebbly,brown lithified sandstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Brown sands with layers of fine, highly rounded quartz pebbles, concretionary. LITHIFICATION: Presumably lithified, based on facies description (detailed in Gage 1957) and age.
Environment: | offshore |
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Deposited in still water beyond reach of strong wave action. |

Collection methods: | selective quarrying,field collection |
Reason for describing collection: | biostratigraphic analysis |
Museum repositories: | IGNS |
Collection method comments: COLLECTOR: Collected by various authors, which may include: Marwick (1924-1944), Laws (1930-1941), and Powell (1942). REPOSITORY: New Zealand Geological Survey (now GNS Science, Lower Hutt, New Zealand).
Taxonomic list comments:COVERAGE: Exhaustive for bivalvia, gastropoda, and brachiopoda. IDENTIFIER: J.A. Marwick and O.P Olson(NZGS). NOMENCLATURE: Somewhat antiquated but identified by specialist and often to subgeneric and species resolution. |
