Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: sandstone
Secondary lithology: conglomerate
Lithology description: "Fluvial lithofacies... predominantly epiclastic sand and gravel"
Environment:fluvial indet.
Geology comments: "deposited by a large meandering river"
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:mesofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:bulk, sieve, field collection, survey of museum collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Museum repositories:UNSM
Collection method comments: "Most of the local faunas listed are the result of test-screening sand and gravel lenses and sorting between 45 and 136 kg of concentrate" (apparently at each site)
Taxonomic list comments:composite of six collections from isolated outcrops; some of this material comes from UNSM Cr-23 = Aletomeryx Quarry, but virtually all of it comprises small mammals and probably derives from new collections by Bailey, so I have not tried to separate out taxa that might belong to this collection
