Stratigraphy
Local section: | Buschberg | Local bed: | 12.5 m
Local order: | top to bottom
Stratigraphic resolution: | bed
Stratigraphy comments: STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: Overlying Karpatian sediments, but also regionally overlying Paleocene-Jurassic basement rock. THICKNESS: Sampled horizon of ~10 cm within approximately 17 m thick composite section (composed of ~3 m thick pits. AGE: Early Badenian, Lower Lagenid froam biozone, NN5, M5 planktic foram biozone, lower Langhian. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From near base of section, in Balanid/molluck - siltclay. |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | medium,shelly/skeletal unlithified argillaceous,silty sandstone |
Includes fossils? | Y |
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Medium sand to silt/clay, bearing skeletal material. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified, based on description.
Environment: | offshore |
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Water depth not exceeding 100 m, proximal strom deposition, within the inner shelf area. Balanids indicate presence of abundant littoral hard substrata; relatively deep water sediments at only 200 m distance from paleoshore indicates the presence of a drowned paleocliff. SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY: Highstand conditions at this time within Vienna Basin. |
