Stratigraphic resolution: | group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Shuwayr Fm, which is unconformably overlain by the Warak Fm (Chattian). THICKNESS: From section of more than 90 m in thickness. AGE: latest Rupelian-early Chattian. Stated by Harzhauser to most likely be "Late Oligocene". Assigned here to Chattian. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From throughout section, although facies become more marine and fossiliferous upsection. |

Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Marls and bioclastic limestone. LITHIFICATION: Poorly lithified, based on figured specimens.
Environment: | shallow subtidal indet. |
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Very shallow marine depositional environment. Some evidence of shallow sublittoral setting of a few tens of metres of water depth. Many taxa typical of patch reefs, coral carpets, sea grass meadows, and littoral mangrove flats. |
