Paleocoordinates:8.7° North, 61.9° East
Basis of coordinate:stated in text
Geographic resolution:outcrop
Time
Period:Paleogene Epoch:Eocene
Stage:Lutetian 10 m.y. bin:Cenozoic 2
Key time interval:Lutetian
Age range of interval:47.80000 - 41.20000 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Formation:Tiyon
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Tiyon Fm, which gradationally overlies the Laki Fm (Ypresian) and is gradationally overlain by the Kirthar Fm (Late Middle Eocene-Early Miocene). THICKNESS: 439 ft thick in total. AGE: Early Eocene-early Middle Eocene (Hunting Survey Corporation). Iqbal suggests that the age is not as old as Early Eocene, but is Middle Eocene. A Lutetian age is assigned by the enterer. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From unknown position within formation.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:gypsiferous,shelly/skeletal,gray,green,yellow poorly lithified calcareous "shale"
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Shale, with subordinate marl and limestone. Shale is greenish grey, brown, yellowish grey, soft, crumbling, calcareous, gypsiferous, and fossiliferous. LITHIFICATION: Poorly-lithified on the basis of facies description.
Environment:coastal indet.
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Shallow marine environment, very shallow sea, not far from shore, and probably clear water conditions.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:surface (in situ),field collection
Reason for describing collection:biostratigraphic analysis
Collectors:Iqbal Collection dates:1966, 1972
Collection method comments: COLLECTOR: Iqbal (1966, 1972). REPOSITPRY: Geological Survey of Pakistan, Quetta.
Taxonomic list comments:COVERAGE: Exhaustive for gastropoda and bivalvia. NOMENCLATURE: Authoritative publication, with somewhat antiquated nomenclature, though with subgenus and species-level assignments.
