Local section: | Wheeler Gully | Local bed: | 29 (uppermost shell bed)
Local order: | bottom to top
Regional section: | Genesee Valley
Stratigraphic resolution: | bed
Stratigraphy comments: this horizon is within the upper transitional shales of the Wheeler Gully submember of the Centerfield; the uppermost shell bed is probably equivalent to Kashong Glen bed |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | gray claystone
Lithology description: light gray claystone
Environment: | transition zone/lower shoreface | Tectonic setting: | foreland basin |
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation: | body |
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods: | bulk,surface (in situ),chemical,mechanical,field collection,observed (not collected) |
Reason for describing collection: | paleoecologic analysis |
Taxonomic list comments:Data is presented in two ways in the paper: as presence/absence data for all 34 sampled horizons, and standardized abundances for 23 of those horizons. Where available, abundance data is entered. Counts from bulk sampling "were adjusted uniformly for fragmented and single valve occurences by multiplying through a ratio--4 fragments or 2 valve equal to one occurence." Standardization means "bulk sampling counts were standardized by sample weight". |
