Paleocoordinates:31.3° South, 99.8° East
Basis of coordinate:based on nearby landmark
Geographic resolution:small collection
Time
Period:Permian Epoch:Guadalupian
Stage:Roadian 10 m.y. bin:Permian 3
Key time interval:Roadian
Age range of interval:273.01000 - 266.90000 m.y. ago
Stratigraphy
Formation:Rat Buri
Stratigraphy comments: The age of the Rat Buri fauna is problematic. "Rat Buri" limestones likely range in age from Kungurian through Capitanian to perhaps Wuchiapingian. Wordian fusulinids appear most common in other collections, but are not found in association with the brachiopod localities. The brachopod fauna is most similar to the Wordian Amb Formation of the Salt Range, in Pakistan, tentatively indicating a Wordian age.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:shelly/skeletal silty,sandy "limestone"
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: Sandy silty limestone, with the maximum size of the sand in the medium range. Sand makes up about 10% of the rock and silt about 15%; the cement is calcite.
Environment:shallow subtidal indet.
Geology comments: Depositional setting reconstructed as fairly shallow water, near shore and a source of terrigenous sediment, with a fairly firm substrate, in somewhat turbid water.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body,replaced with silica
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Collection methods and comments
Collection excludes:some macrofossils
Collection methods:bulk,chemical,field collection
Reason for describing collection:paleoecologic analysis
Taxonomic list comments:Concentrates on brachiopods, accompanying faunas are mentioned but likely not fully described
