• Thuringian Forest basin; extensional basin with dextral strike-slip transtension component following the Variscan orogeny. "After a relief reactivation, red-brown alluvial fan conglomerates and fluvial sandstones grade into brownish to greenish fluvio-lacustrine and very finely laminated (varved) black shales of the depocentres intercalated by basin-wide tuff marker-beds."
