Six Miles Northwest of Arki (Eocene of India)

Where: Himachal Pradesh, India (31.2° N, 77.0° E: paleocoordinates 10.6° N, 71.3° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Subathu Group, Lutetian (47.8 - 41.3 Ma)

• from the "middle zone" of the group

Environment/lithology: marine; poorly lithified, gray claystone

• "gray, lumpy clay, somewhat mottled reddish brown and is broken and contorted"

•presumably poorly lithified because (1) sediment is described as "clay" instead of "claystone"; (2) sediment is "broken and contorted"; and (3) specimens are not shown preserved in matrix

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by Barnum Brown in 1922; reposited in the AMNH
