New Field, Coocoran (Cretaceous of Australia)

Where: New South Wales, Australia (29.5° S, 147.8° E: paleocoordinates 59.3° S, 140.4° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Coptospora paradoxa pollen zone, Wallangulla Sandstone Member (Griman Creek Formation), Early/Lower Cenomanian (99.6 - 93.5 Ma)

• From Bell et al. 2019: U-Pb age dating of detrital zircons extracted from a distinct layer of volcanogenic claystone immediately overlying one of the opalised fossil-bearing layers yields a maximum depositional age of 100.2–96.6 Ma. These new dates confirm an early to mid-Cenomanian age for the fauna, rather than Albian, as has been reported previously.

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: estuary or bay; claystone

• "estuary of the Australian Cretaceous inland sea"
• "opal-bearing claystone"

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collection methods: surface (float),
