Eurypterid-associated biota of Gascons Fmn. at Port Daniel, Gaspe (Silurian of Canada)

Where: Quebec, Canada (48.2° N, 65.0° W: paleocoordinates 27.1° S, 30.2° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Gascons Formation, Ludlow (427.4 - 423.0 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: transition zone or lower shoreface; argillaceous sandstone

• "Environment: BA 3 as suggested by the associations with Zoophycos (see Boucot 1975). BA 3 shelly faunas are known from many parts of the Gascons Formation."

•SEP: from Young et al. 1991. JP 65:715-726 -- "Almost all (coral) colonies are in growth orientation, andonly a few show evidence of breakage and abrasion...the depositional environment of this facies (in the Gascon Fm.) has been interpreted by Bourque et al. (1986) as a shelf with intermediate water depath and the predominately in situ nature of the tabulate coral fauna is consistent with this interpretation."

• "Thin bedded argillaceous sandstone."

Collection methods: Collections 730, 731, and 732 are also for Gascons Formation, but they list corals only.
