Where: Queensland, Australia (23.0° S, 150.0° E: paleocoordinates 36.7° S, 146.5° E)
• coordinate estimated from map
• local area-level geographic resolution
When: Rockhampton Group, Visean (346.7 - 330.9 Ma)
• Age calls based on corals, brachiopods, conodonts. Zones are brachiopod zones of Roberts (1975). A: Spirifer sol to Schellwienella burlingtonensis; B: Orthotetes australis to Delepinia aspinosa; C: D. aspinosa to Rhipidomella fortimuscula; D: Marginirugus barringtonensis. A is late Tournaisian; B-D are early to late Visean.
• formation-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: marine; ooidal grainstone
• Overall carbonate sequence is shallow water, representing W-E transect with following biofacies: 1. forebank slope; 2. biohermal ooid bank 3. ooid bank/shallow water mobile sands; 4. biostromal open shallow shelf; 5. shallow water mobile sands (open shelf); 6. offshore silt (open shelf); 7. nearshore mobile sands. Assemblage A includes biofacies 3&4; B has 1-3; C has 2-4; D has 2,3,5-7.
• Most limestones are oolitic grainstones. These are within some 2000m of marine siltstone and sandstone. Some of these are allochthonous, but the discussion of geologic context makes it clear that the limestones largely represent intervals of carbonate deposition within the longer siliciclastic sequence.
