Chengapara Fm - Zone II (Miocene of India)

Where: India (25.2° N, 90.7° E: paleocoordinates 18.4° N, 89.9° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Chengapara Formation, Middle Miocene (16.0 - 11.6 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Zone II of Chengapara Formation, which regionally conformably overlies the Baghmara Fm (presumanly Early Miocene) and is unconformably overlain by the Dupitila Fm. THICKNESS: Zone is 0.25 m in thickness, within a ~30 m thick section. AGE: Burdigalian-Helvetian, placed here in the Middle Miocene. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From upper part of section, middle part of the Chengapara Fm.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; lithified, shelly/skeletal limestone

• ENVIRONMENT: Shallow siliciclastic marine environment.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Impure limestone, highly fossiliferous. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, based on facies description.

Size class: macrofossils
