Schrattenkalk Fm - Bezeck near Bezau, Vorarlberg (Cretaceous of Austria)

Where: Austria (47.4° N, 9.9° E: paleocoordinates 32.5° N, 20.0° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Schrattenkalk Formation, Barremian (129.4 - 125.0 Ma)

• LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY: From the Schrattenkalk Formation, which is synonymous with the Urgon-Kalk (Urgonian Limestone) of Vacek 1879. AGE: Based on calcareous algae and Orbitolinidae (Foraminifera), Bodrogi 1987, gives an early Barremian to lower Aptian age. Assigned to the Barremian to avoid orphaning.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lithified, shelly/skeletal limestone

• ENVIRONMENT: Considered to be boreal or temperate. Abundance of ammonites suggests environments that were bathymetrically deeper than those of nerineaceans, anthozoans, etc.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Condensated and highly fossiliferous, lithified (as many specimens are internal moulds). Presumably from chalk facies. LITHIFICATION: Lithified based on facies description and taphonomic comments.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: mold/impression
