Alacaagzi Formation-Asma Member (Carboniferous of Turkey)

Where: Turkey (41.5° N, 39.8° E: paleocoordinates 41.5° N, 39.8° E)

When: Carboniferous (358.9 - 298.9 Ma)

• Possible range in age for this member is from mid-Namurian to early late-Namurian based on spore content.

Environment/lithology: sandstone

• Predominantly a sandy unit, basal boundary being marked by the appearance of erosional channel-fill sequences.

Preservation: mold/impression

Collection methods: The entire formation consists of a succession of mudstones, siltstones, and thin sandstones whcih constitutes a broadly coarsening upwards fluvially dominated deltaic sequence. General thickness is 600m.
