Higher Melcome, Dorsetshire Gap [Upper Greensand] (Cretaceous of the United Kingdom)

Where: England, United Kingdom (50.8° N, 2.3° W: paleocoordinates 39.1° N, 0.9° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Stoliczkaia dispar ammonoid zone, Upper Greensand Formation, Late/Upper Albian (105.3 - 99.6 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Upper Greensand, which underlies the Lower Chalk (Late Cenomanian). AGE: Late Albain; on the basis of ammonite biostratigraphy; Stoliczkaia dispar zone; Early Cenomanian in text. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From top of the Upper Greensand.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; lithified, concretionary, glauconitic, green, calcareous conglomerate

• COMMENTS: Shallow marine siliciclastic setting.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Nodular, phosphatic conglomerate, consisting of large cobbles of intensely hard glauconitic calcareous sandstone set in a softer, whiter matrix. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, on the basis of facies description.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: cast, mold/impression, concretion, replaced with silica, replaced with phosphate

Collection methods: bulk,
