Ahlten quarry, Niedersachsen (Cretaceous of Germany)

Where: Germany (52.4° N, 9.9° E: paleocoordinates 42.9° N, 10.5° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Late/Upper Campanian (83.5 - 70.6 Ma)

• Ne. bipunctatum/ Gt. roemeri zone

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: offshore shelf; lithified, glauconitic wackestone

• The Opoka is interpreted as a shallow marine, pelagic, predominantly biogenic sediment. It was deposited in consequence of the Upper Campanian polyplocum regression during sea-level lowstand as a lateral equivalent of the chalk facies.
• spiculitic, glauconite-bearing wacke-/packstones of the Opoka facies

Size class: macrofossils
