Also known as STRI Sample 36991, 36999

Where: La Guajira, Colombia (11.9° N, 71.3° W: paleocoordinates 11.8° N, 70.8° W)

• coordinate based on unpublished field data

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Ware Formation, Late/Upper Pliocene (3.6 - 2.6 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Ware Formation, which unconformably overlies the Castilletes Formation (early-middle Miocene). This area and nearby collections have been previously mapped as Castilletes Formaton (Miocene). AGE: late Pliocene-early Pleistocene, on the basis of macrofaunal composition; direct age established by extrapolation of Sr-isotope dating by enterer. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Probably from lower in the Ware Fm that other marine horizons; estimated to be 440 m in regional section.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; poorly lithified, medium-grained, calcareous sandstone

• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Poorly to completely consolidated sandy matrix. LITHIFICATION: Poorly lithified, as determined in the field and based on museum-reposited specimens.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: original calcite
