849.0 m, Gorgo-A-Cerbara section (Maiolica Fm) (Cretaceous of Italy)

Where: Italy (43.6° N, 12.5° E: paleocoordinates 28.3° N, 19.0° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Maiolica Formation, Barremian (129.4 - 125.0 Ma)

• SPECIFIC STRATIGRAPHY: uppermost Lower Barremian, H caillaudi Zone.

•GENERAL STRATIGRAPHY: The lower Cretaceous in the Umbria-Marche region is represented by two formations: (1) the Maiolica Fm (late Tithonian to early Aptian) consisting of limestones; and (2) the Scisti a Fucoidi Fm (early Aptian to Albian) consisting of marls. The lithologic boundary between the two fms is gradational and is placed at the uppermost black chert at the top of the Maiolica limestones. The section is numbered bed by bed starting from the base of Scisti a Fucoidi Fm downward through the Maiolica. The beds also carry metre level names.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: lithified, concretionary, white, cherty/siliceous limestone

• Pelagic limestones.
• White, pelagic limestone with chert lenses and nodules and scattered black shales in upper parts.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: bulk, quarrying,

• Data appears to have been recently collected by authors. Nannofossils and foraminifera presumably collected by bulk means.
