Environment/lithology: fluvial-deltaic; lithified, gray, silty shale

• Interpreted as deposits of a subaquatic delta that changed slowly to swampy coal-building environments, probably with sometimes brackish influence (Krystyn 1991). Several thin seams indicate frequently changing habitats caused by the meandering of the fluvial system. According to Sachsenhofer (1987), the coal is characterized by a remarkably high amount of cutinite (often with resinite) and almost complete lack of inertinite, which together with the high amount of siderite indicate that the coal was built in a gyttja environment.
