Cheiopteria bridgei Community, La Megnanne, Massif Armoricain (Silurian of France)

Where: France (47.5° N, 0.7° W: paleocoordinates 55.8° S, 43.0° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Monograptus transgrediens zone, Pridoli (423.0 - 419.2 Ma)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; calcareous claystone and argillaceous limestone

• "The occurrence of open articulated shells and articulated closed shells documents periodic mass mortalities caused by abiotic conditions. The preservation shows that current activity was very low close to the bottom, while sedimentation rate was rapid enough to cover the open shells before they disarticulated. Deposit feeders were absent...[and diversity low]....I presume that the envronment was relatively shallow (young ontogenetic stages present), below wave base, with low oxygen content and very low current activity."
• "The shells occur at the type locality in dark, calcareous claystones to argillaceous limestones, mostly articulated..."
