FH730E (Jiwani Formation) (Pleistocene of Pakistan)

Where: Pakistan (25.1° N, 63.8° E: paleocoordinates 25.1° N, 63.9° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Jiwani Formation, Late/Upper Pleistocene (0.1 - 0.0 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Jiwani Formation, which unconformably overlies the Ormara Fm, and is not covered by further strata (modern erosional surface). THICKNESS: As much as 10 ft. AGE: Pleistocene, based on faunal affinity with Recent and other Pleistocene faunas. Enterer assigns collection to Late Pleistocene age. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Unknown position within formation.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: coastal; unlithified, shelly/skeletal, brown, gray, sandy, conglomeratic, calcareous mixed carbonate-siliciclastic sediments

• ENVIRONMENT: Littoral deposit according to text. Apparently a shallow shelf siliciclastic setting on the basis of faunal composition.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Loosely consolidated and part decalcified shelly deposit. Shelly limestone, sandstone, and conglomerate, grayish brown or dark ferruginous brown. Limestone consists of shell fragments in a sandy, hard, calcareous matrix. LITHIFICATION: Unlithified, on the basis on facies description.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: COLLECTOR: Possibly L.R. Cox. REPOSITORY: Not reported in text, but probably BMNH.
