Templom-hegy, Villány (Alagut Bed) (Jurassic to of Hungary)

Where: Hungary (45.9° N, 18.5° E: paleocoordinates 28.7° N, 25.6° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Gracilis ammonoid zone, Templomhegy & Alagut Bed Member (Villány Formation), Early/Lower Callovian to Early/Lower Callovian (164.7 - 161.2 Ma)

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal; lithified, oncoidal, ooidal, sandy grainstone and lithified, oncoidal mudstone

• The Alagu´t Bed was deposited in a sublittoral environment,

•probably somewhat deeper than the subjacent Alta´ro´

•Bed

• The rock is an oo-biomicrite of grainstone to wackestone

•texture; the mostly superficial ferruginous ooids,

•0.1–0.5 mm in diameter usually bear quartz or dolomite

•grains in their cores; composite grains (grapestones) occur

•also (Fig. 6g). The dominantly oncoidal parts may be

•termed as rudstones with grain-supported mega-texture.

•The light-yellow to buff mudstone with fine blackish

•infiltrations (dendrites) is packed with ammonoids and

•belemnite rostra. Several cm-thick stromatolite mats with

•LLH structure and polygonal surface are common (Fig. 7a,

•b, d). The fossils are commonly coated with thick calcareous

•stromatolite encrustations (oncoids) sometimes of

•complex structure, including corals (Fig. 7c, e).

Size class: macrofossils
