When: San Diego Formation, Late/Upper Pliocene (3.6 - 2.6 Ma)

Environment/lithology: marine; conglomeratic shale

• The lithology of the base of the San Diego Formation in this area is variable, consisting largely of interbedded sandstone and conglomerate units which rest in angular unconformity on the basalts. The conglomerates consist of a reddish-brown matrix-supported, cobble to boulder sandy conglomerate
