Environment/lithology: terrestrial; lithified siliciclastic sediments
• The Upper Permian coal bearing sequences (and presumably the Yaman Us Formation, which is primarily Permian) are believed to have been deposited in continental basins related to folding and thrust faulting following the closure of a paleo-asian ocean and docking of a Carboniferous island arc complex.
