When: El Mogallón Formation, Drumian to Drumian (504.5 - 497.0 Ma)

Environment/lithology: open shallow subtidal; calcareous siltstone and mudstone

• The dominant lithology of this unit is calcareous siltstone with in

•tercalations of mudstone. In thin section, no bioclasts were observed,

•only pellets. In addition, the abundance of porifers in the unit could

•indicate a low-energy environment. Trilobites from the Agnostida,

•Ptychopariida, Corynexochida, and Asaphida are observed in this unit,

•consistent with the marine environment of the open outer platform in

•central Sonora and the Great Basin of the western United States of

•America.

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Preservation: recrystallized, original aragonite, original calcite, original silica, replaced with calcite
