Eucalyptocrinites crassus-Cupulocorona-Caryocrinites persculptus Association (Silurian of the United States)

Where: Tennessee (36.1° N, 87.1° W: paleocoordinates 29.6° S, 54.9° W)

• coordinate based on political unit

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Waldron Member (Wayne Formation), Wenlock (433.4 - 427.4 Ma)

• "Middle Wenlockian. Barrick (1983) placed the Waldron Member near the top of the Kockelella amsdeni Zone."

• member-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep subtidal ramp; shelly/skeletal, argillaceous wackestone and packstone

• "echionderms rarely preserved with appendages or columns attached, but whole cups or thecae more common in most units than isolated plates...holdfasts and root systems common...the average higher echinoderm and brachiopod diversity (as compared to Indiana sites), faunal composition, and apprent rarity of storm-caused disturbance, are suggestive of a BA 4 to ouer BA 3 position. A Boucot notes that the brachiopod fauna also indicate a BA 3-4 boundary position."

•SEP environmental call based on given info

• "The most common lithology is skeletal wackestone with 30-50% fossil debris and a siliciclastic mud matrix, but thin limestones with packstone-grainstone textures occur also, especially near the center of the unit. Tyhpicially, each unit is less than 3 cm thick and shows a considerable lateral continuity."

Collection methods: Table 45.37 lists abundances for fauna at Newsome Station Quarry. I have also included one additional genus mentioned in text but not listed in table.
